EBB – The Mirror Progressive Voyages Review PV094

THE COVER FOR the mirror

EBB (Erin Bennett Band) are a Scottish crossover group who fuse together Theatrical Art rock with strong progressive elements. They have steadily risen in stature over the past 18 months with a lot of touring activities. They have played several festivals such as Fusion, Prog For Peart and Soundle, where they have been very well received. EBB are a cottage industry really as they live communally in an Arts Collective near Lockerbie. They are a six piece band fronted and led by Erin Bennett (Guitar, Lead Vocals and Trombone). Erin is joined by Anna Fraser (Drums), Suna Dasi (synthesisers and backing vocals), Nikki Francis (Organ, Piano and Synthesisers, Flute and Clarinet), Kitty Biscuits (Vocals, Percussion and Spoken Word Poetry) and Bad Dog aka Finn McGregor (Bass and Production).

EBB are certainly a highly visual act with a very different sort of stage craft that includes spoken word sections, interpretive dance and theatrics. Once seen they are unlikely to be forgotten such is their impact. In addition their music is very strong and memorable. They constantly are refined their act making each show unique. The Mirror is a self- released album that is certainly going to make a further impact for EBB. I can confidently say that its 9 tracks are going to impress anyone who is unfamiliar with their music as there is a whole lot to enjoy and appreciate in this album. Erin tells me the album is about Self-Reflection and Self Realisation and the journey one goes through in that process.

The album has 9 tracks and lasts for 65 minutes in total. Several of these songs have already been part of EBB’s show recently namely Reason and No One’s Child which both appeared in raw form on the Live At The 1865 Cd/Blu-ray set recently, although they have been reworked for this album.

Having seen EBB 4 times this year I have experienced some of this album live already especially at Wokingham Festival and more recently at the 4 Play Prog show in Reading where they were sensational and reaffirmed that EBB are a band much on the rise. I strongly believe that with this album The Mirror will be an important part of EBB’s transition to the major league. I am certainly very glad that I caught them on that particular journey.

This is an album of depth and emotional vulnerability which echoes the ethos which EBB seek to live by. I have only got the download at present, so I have not really had the opportunity to hear the album as a complete piece of work although I’ve heard all the individual tracks and can say that it is a truly excellent album. One that moves through several different stages as it evolves, until it hits a peak in the albums final song the deeply moving Geneva in which the self-realisation becomes complete. The album has several stand out moments including the epic title track The Mirror, the earworm of Reason and the almost epic length Take Me To The Stars, but then actuality there are no weak tracks here whatsoever. You have a series of strong songs with great musicianship delivered with style confidence, emotional intelligence, courage, strength and ultimately dignity for which we should all be grateful that EBB are brave enough to both undertake and document this most personal of journeys.

This is an album that you definitely do not want to miss out on as it will certainly be close to the top of many folks best of 2025 end of year lists. I know it will be in my list close to the top and when you consider all the amazing albums that 2025 has given us that surely is some recommendation for EBB to have received.

Yes I could delve deep into each individual song, However I feel that that would not really help. What is better for you is that you put your hand in your pocket and actually purchase the album for yourself, for if you have any of their previous releases, The Mismanagement Of Consequences, Mad And Killing Time or even Live At The 1865, then you already have a pretty good idea of just how spectacular EBB are already. As such you should need little cajoling to actually buy the album which you can do here at this link: www.ebbband.com
